Noise as a probe of representation

Published:

Rather than treating noise only as something to remove, use it as a way to interrogate a representation. Perturb the input, intermediate features, or readout and ask which changes matter to the task.

The shape of the degradation may reveal more than a single accuracy number: sensitivity, redundancy, graceful failure, and the geometry of the learned representation.
